The ancient Mayan civilization is revered for its distinctive art, advanced architecture, complex mathematics, and erudite knowledge of the stars. Their mysterious calendar, called the Tzolk'in, predicted the right time to plant seeds, build monuments, the day a new baby would be born, and the movement of the planets. It was the centerpiece of Mayan life.
In Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar, you are one of the ajaw, the leaders of Mayan tribes. As head of your clan, you’ll work to please the gods by building temples or placing crystal skulls in deep caves. As in Mayan times, the center of the game is the 260-day Tzolk'in calendar - a set of gears that rotate each round of the game. This dynamic worker placement mechanism helps you visualize the cyclic flow of time and plan your actions in advance. Should you harvest your corn crops now, or wait for a higher yield?
The game ends after one full revolution of the central Tzolkin gear. You’ll span these 260 days in about 90 minutes of gameplay. Two to four players can play.
